Video Games Blamed for Boy’s Plot to Kill Family

Video Games Blamed for Boy’s Plot to Kill Family

None

A sixteen year-old boy in the UK has been found guilty of setting fire to his family’s home two years ago. The fire killed his eleven year-old sister. The boy also caused brain damage to his brother by hitting him in the head with an axe during the attack.

The boy planned to kill his family and be adopted by rich parents. A note found by the police read,” “Operation New Life. Kill family. Lose memory. Get adopted by rich couple. It all starts.”

Where the story twists to pertain to video games is that the boy was obsessed with Dante, a half-demon, half-human, in Devil May Cry. The game was rated for players 15 and older by the UK system.

Mediawatch, a UK pressure group, accused the video game industry of “living in denial” of the consequences of their products. The UK’s Sun tabloid headlined the story “Video Nut Slayed Sister.” Again, the media seems to be exaggerating the connection between video games and violence.
