In another case of violence blamed on video games, five youths in Maraenui, New Zealand attacked a thirty-one year-old man until he was nearly dead. The youths kicked him repeatedly and may have attacked him with a tree branch. He was transported to a hospital in Wellington and is now is serious but stable condition.
Two of the youth have been arrested and charged with assault.
According to Hawke’s Bay Today, CIB detective sergeant Mike Foster linked their attack to video games. This connection is found since video game characters can sustain multiple head injuries and act is if nothing happened. He also believes that youth have been taught that violence is an acceptable part of everyday life.
