Although video games take a lot of heat for the violence of some games, many people are also finding the upside of games.
The North Jersey Media Group has announced the beginning of a five-year study by the New Jersey Institute of Technology to explore the application of video games and haptic (force feedback) technology for patients with cerebral palsy.
One-on-one therapy has already proven effective in treating cerebral palsy. It retrains the brain by providing the right stimulus. Many hope that the stimuli provided by force-feedback in video game technology may achieve similar or better results because patients may find them more engaging.
The research is being funded by a grant of $4.75 million and will begin next year at the Children’s Specialized Hospital in Mountainside, New Jersey.
