Miami School Board Considers Formally Protesting Bully

Miami School Board Considers Formally Protesting Bully

Florida, home to our buddy Jack Thompson, has some interesting things going on in their Miami-Dade school district.

Frank Bolanos, a member of the county’s school board, has proposed a resolution that would have the district ask Rockstar not to release the game Bully, local merchants not to carry it, and parents not to buy it.

A subcommittee unanimously approved the measure last week.

“This game is built entirely around bullies and is staged in a school – it’s the antithesis of everything we’re trying to promote,” Bolanos commented.

As you could imagine, Thompson is in the picture on this issue. He initially sent the proposal to school boards around the country. “The goal is to make it such a negative thing that retailers won’t carry it. This thing hasn’t really reached critical mass as a [public relations] problem yet; that’s what I’m trying to do,” Thompson told the Miami Herald.

“We all have different opinions about art and entertainment, but everyone agrees that real-life school violence is a serious issue which lacks easy answers,” Rockstar stated in a written statement about the issue.
