Thompson’s Video Game Bill Passes in Louisiana

Thompson’s Video Game Bill Passes in Louisiana

None

Governor Kathleen Babineaux Blanco of Louisiana has signed into law a bill that will consider violent video games “harmful to minors” like pornography.

The law will not allow sale or rental of games to minors if the games do not meet the following criteria.

1. The game, as a whole, must not appeal to the minor’s morbid interest in violence.

2. The game must not depict violence in a manner offensive to “prevailing standards in the adult community with respect to what is suitable for minors.”

3. The game must not “lack serious literary, artistic, political, or scientific value for minors.”

Not surprisingly, Jack Thompson helped draft this bill and believes the law is constitutional. The ESA disagrees and plans to sue the state. We will keep you posted as we learn more.
