Sony Defends PlayStation 3 Price

Sony Defends PlayStation 3 Price

None

Apparently, Sony has finally taken notice of the grumbled complaints from poor gamers who just can’t seem to justify spending $600 on a PlayStation 3. Kaz Hirai addressed the issue on CNet.

“I think that we are offering a very good value for the consumers. We look at our products having a ten-year life cycle, which we’ve proven with the PlayStation. Therefore, the PlayStation 3 is going to be a console that’s going to be with you again for ten years. We’re not going to ask the consumers to suddenly buy another PlayStation console in five years time, and we basically have their investment go by the wayside. So for all those reasons, I think at $599 we’re offering a very good value to the consumers.”

Of course, his comparison to the PlayStation seems hardly fair. After all, who do you know that is still playing his PlayStation? And clearly you are not just paying $600 for the console unless you only plan to play one game on the system for the next ten years. Yet, we have yet to see what Sony brings to the table this winter. Until then, our jury is still out.
