The biggest entertainment news this weekend would have clearly been the launches of the Sony PlayStation 3 and the Nintendo Wii if it weren’t for the union of Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes in Italy this Saturday. Coincidence? We don’t think so.
Vendors of the elaborate wedding set to take place in an Italian castle have started to talk on the interesting theme of the wedding. The caterer mentioned that the groom’s cake would be in the shape of a Xbox 360 and one anonymous assistant admitted that all guests of the wedding would be receiving Xbox 360 games as wedding favors. These oddities caused more investigation. After much media pressure, Microsoft has admitted to asking the couple to marry during this particular weekend.
“We tried to divert attention from the PS3 and Wii launches with new Halo 3 news and by bringing Command & Conquer 3 to the Xbox 360, but the hype was just too much to stop,” Microsoft confessed. “We tried to think about what people loved more than video games and we realized the answer was celebrity gossip. This is when we decided to contact Tom and Katie about getting married this weekend. After all, they had been considering it for a long time.”
Cruise’s press agent concurred that the couple considered Microsoft’s offer carefully and agreed to marry this weekend. “Both persons involved like to support good causes and this is one they felt was worthy,” the spokeswoman said. “Tom also gets upset if anything in the media overshadows his personal life and felt that the PS3 launch may divert attention away from him.”
Rumor has it that Tom and Katie are planning their split-up for the culmination of the 2008 presidential elections.
