Sony Cures Diseases with Newest PS3 Firmware Update

None

If your fantasy has always been to map the way genes change shape, you will find yourself right at home with Folding@Home, the newest innovation from Sony. Sony and Stanford University have come together to create the venture that will allow scientists to study genes in order to cure illnesses.

PlayStation 3 owners will be able to get their hands in on the project via a firmware update at the end of the month. When opened, Folding@Home will process a “work unit,” one section of an entire folding program. After completing the first work unit, the information will be sent to Stanford servers and a new unit will begin unraveling. Your PS3 will automatically update every time it is taken online.

Although this could help find the cures for many diseases, gamers may be turned off by the program because no games can be played nor can Blu-ray discs be watched while the program is running.

Look for the firmware update at the end of the month.
