Gamer Ryan Jackson claims that he plays games to escape reality, but is discouraged with the gaming industry’s move toward realism and relationship. To counteract this phenomenon, Jackson has started a group called Gamers Against Reality.

“When I first started gaming,” Jackson lamented. “I could escape into another reality. I could save Princess Peach or shoot fake ducks. I didn’t have to deal with the outside world. Now, the outside world is finding its way into my games. Xbox Live has been the biggest problem thus far, but other problems like Miis and Sony’s Home are leaving me less secluded. If I wanted to be Live, Home, or Mii, I would do real stuff. I don’t want to look like me or live in an apartment like in Home. If Sony gave me an awesome mansion or Nintendo let me look hot instead of pudgy and limbless, that would be cool. If I had friends, I would play with them in real life. Xbox Live has become like high school. The bigger your friends list, the cooler you are. Maybe some of us don’t have friends and game because we don’t want them. That’s the point of our organization. Lonely gamers unite!”

So far, three people have joined Jackson’s group. They communicate primarily through text messaging and Xbox Live voice chats.
