No Charges Filed Against Radio Station in Wii Death

None

We reported several months ago about the death of Jennifer Strange, a 28-year old mother of three, who died during a radio contest trying to win a Nintendo Wii for her children. The radio contest, titled “Hold Your Wee for a Wii” challenged contestants to drink large quantities of water and not go to the bathroom. Whomever held out the longest won the contest.

Strange reported feeling ill to the DJs and later died. Ten employees were fired and the show was cancelled following the incident.

Sacramento County District Attorney Jan Scully has reported that charges have not been filed against the radio station.

“She knew what the contest involved when she entered it and had the option to stop or discontinue her participation in the contest at any time. There were no observable indications of symptoms that Jennifer Strange was experiencing a serious medical emergency which would have required station employees to seek or administer medical aid to her,” she stated.

The Strange family has filed a wrongful death suit against the radio station and several employees.
