Rumor Round Up

None

Xbox 360 in Motion:

Anything you can do I can do better. At least that seems to be the idea behind circulating rumors concerning Microsoft. With motion sensing all the rage these days for the Wii and PS3, it appears that Microsoft is currently in development of a motion-sensing controller for the 360. It is unknown as to whether this is just a test run or if the controller could be a new way of gaming for the 360.

Spreading the Prince of Persia :

It is possible that the classic Prince of Persia game is getting a makeover. At least that is what the rumor-mill is talking about. According to the German Voluntary Monitoring Organization of Entertainment Software, the German equivalent of the ESRB, a yet to be released title called Prince of Persia Classic is listed for the Xbox 360. While speculation is still out there, we can only hope that our assumption of a remake for the Xbox live Arcade is in the works for the classic game.

While Ubisoft has yet to officially confirm this hopeful rumor, the German ESRB has a reputable history with predicting releases of games before an announcement is made. We will keep you posted on all of the Prince’s possible acrobatics on the 360.

Verdict: Likely

Mass Effect in September?:

It’s rough being a highly anticipated game. While many reports have indicated that the Bioware title Mass Effect will arrive this summer, recent reports indicate that this might be farther from reality. Furthering anticipation Bioware has since retracted that statement with a new one, saying that the game will ship sometime in September. Of course, this details remain sketchy. In fact, Microsoft US only had this to say:

“We have not made any official announcements regarding release timing for Mass Effect. At this time, any information about the game’s release date is purely rumor and speculation.”

So, when the title finally arrives, it is anyone’s guess at the moment. As soon as we hear something, we will be sure to pass it along.

Verdict: Unlikely

Out with the Old in with the New:

Earlier in the month we told you about the discontinuation of the PS3 20GB system. Now it appears that the 80GB system could take the place of the 60GB premium edition. This could be a good thing, in that the 60GB could go down in price and allow a better selling tactic for the PS3. The only thing released so far is a photo of a packaged PS3 displaying an 80GB sticker. Unfortunately, considering that it is stated that the system is a Canadian unit, the 80GB PS3 could be a bust, but then again with Sony discontinuing the 20GB this might the shot in the arm they have been looking for.

Verdict: Possible

Blue Dragon Online?

It’s at least a possibility according to Hironobu Sakaguchi, a producer at Mistwalker. According to him, Mistwalker is currently in talks about a sequel to the already impressive RPG. The sequel would be presented as an online offering according to Sakaguchi. However, nothing is finalized yet, but it does appear that it is something they are interested in doing. Sakaguchi stated at this GDC event that he was interested in an online RPG for the Xbox 360 and the Microsoft representative present jokingly told him that he could make the game of his dreams. Maybe it’s not that big of a joke.

Verdict: Possible

Xbox Handheld:

That is at least the current buzz floating around the US Patent & Trademark Office where Microsoft has registered patents for a new console “system”. The patent further explores the possibilities of what this new gaming system might entail, such as the ability of distributing computing tasks across networked consoles. Some might immediately recognize this as some of the features Sony is doing with PS3, but the inclusion of a handheld system in these capabilities could serve Xbox’s best interest. Full speculation specification on this possibility has yet to be revealed, but as soon as they do we will have more on this potential hot subject.

Verdict: Possible

Big Bang Attack on the 360?:

According to a vague job listing from the developer of the Dragon Ball Z MMORPG, inspirationally titled Dragon Ball Online, they are looking for someone with experience working with the Xbox 360. With nothing official as of yet, it certainly does not appear to be a fool’s dream. After all, with such a recognizable cast and array of characters and abilities, it only seems logical to expand past the initial PC launch decision. If there is any truth behind this rumor we will undoubtedly hear about it. Stay tuned Dragon Ball fans.
