Hero Gamer Shot While Helping Robbery Victim

None

The media rarely portrays gamers in a postive light, usually only putting the spotlight on gamers that are involved in tragedy, such as the recent VA Tech shootings and the subsequent VA Tech Rampage game.  However, 24-year old Adam Mapleson’s recent bravery may be the first step towards altering that image.

Mapleson was shot at a rail station yesterday while attempting to aid a female security guard that was being held at gunpoint by two armed robbers.  While trying to tackle one of the robbers, Mapleson was shot close range in the chest.  The robbers escaped, but Mapleson’s heroism possibly prevented the security guard from being harmed.

Mapleson is currently in the hospital and he is listed as being in “serious but stable” condition.  Mapleson, an IT consultant, enjoys The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion, Neverwinter Nights, and Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas.
