Hackers almost crack PS3 firmware

Hackers almost crack PS3 firmware

None

The hackers have taken the first significant step towards cracking the PS3 firmware and making it possible to mod the PS3.

One industrious hacker has discovered an exploit in versions 1.10 and 1.11 of the PS3 firmware that has allowed him to boot up a copied PS3 game.  However, the game doesn’t actually play or allow the use of unofficial programs, so there is still a significant way to go before hackers are able to mod the PS3.

Modding of any system allows the owner to play copied or unofficial games on their console, but nullifies the console warranty as well as incurring risks such as expulsion from online play and possible system bricking.
