Microsoft pays $50 million for GTA IV episodic content

Microsoft pays $50 million for GTA IV episodic content

According to recently released financial reports, Take Two Interactive has revealed that the episodic content for GTA IV is scheduled in 2008 for the Xbox 360 only.  Reports have also emerged that Microsoft paid $50 million, which amounts to $25 million for two downloads, for the exclusive downloadable content.

“The first 25 million is for the first episodic content package that’s supposed to go out and that is in March of ’08,” stated Take Two CFO Laine Goldstein. “That’s why it moved into current because it’s in the next 12 months. The second 25 will be for the second episodic, the episode, and that will be later in fiscal ’08.”

While the exclusive downloadable content may influence many gamers to choose the Xbox 360 version of GTA IV over the PS3 version, $50 million is a massive amount of money to pay for downloadable content.  We’ll see later this year how well it pays off for Microsoft when the figures come in.

We’ll keep you posted on news as it becomes available.
