Blockbuster supports Blu-Ray

Blockbuster supports Blu-Ray

None

In one of the first significant blows to the format wars, Blockbuster has announced that they will exclusively support Blu-ray in their stores, although they will continue to support HD-DVDs in their online service.

The upgrade is expected to come in Mid-July, when Blockbuster will have 170 titles at 1,700 stores.

“We intend to meet the demands of our customers and based on the trends we’re seeing, we’re expanding our Blu-ray inventory to ensure our stories reflect the right level of products,” stated Blockbuster executive Matthew Smith.

While it is still too early to claim a victor in the format wars, many are declaring this a major victory for Sony, who has backed the Blu-ray against Microsoft and their HD-DVD format.

We’ll keep you posted on news as it becomes available.
