PS3 firmware 1.90 on its way

Sony has confirmed that its latest firmware update, version 1.90, is going live in Europe on July 24.  The following is a list of some of the new features we can expect.

  • Rearrange games on the Cross Menu Bar
  • Eject disc from Cross Menu Bar
  • Create custom backgrounds
  • Change CD output to 44.1/88.2/176.4kHz
  • Change folder classifications
  • Add bookmarks
  • Emoticons
  • Force 24Hz output for Blu-ray over HDMI
  • Change PS3 video settings while in-game
  • Save AVCHD type animations from a Memory Stick
  • Bit mapping option in Music Settings
  • Change settings like upscaling while playing PS and PS2 games

Usually, when the update goes live in Europe, it is also available in North America.  While that hasn’t been confirmed for this update, it is a possibility.  We’ll keep you informed with news as soon as it is available.
