PSP Saves Kidnapping Victim

PSP Saves Kidnapping Victim

While videogame violence is a hot topic in politics, it’s rare that videogames are actually acknowledged for preventing violence.  Apparently, that has happened in Tennessee , where a PSP has possibly saved the life of a kidnap victim.

According to the Knoxville New-Sentinel, Jose Ignacio Ortega Garcia was kidnapped and tortured by a pair of men that held him captive in a dirty motel room for nine days.  Garcia, who is a business owner, was forced to write checks for the men, with the grand total of extorted money equaling $17,000.  The kidnappers also made Garcia call his wife and tell her he’d left with another woman to ensure that she didn’t call the police when it became obvious he was missing.

To escape, Garcia apparently gave a PSP to his kidnappers, Jose Sanchez, 18, and Juan Gonzalez, 28.  Sanchez played the game “virtually all day and much of the night”.  Garcia was able to loosen his bindings and escape after “the exhausted gamer fell asleep”.
