ESRB Not Explaining Manhunt 2 Re-Rating

None

Despite demands from a Californian legislator, the ESRB isn’t divulging the reasons behind their recent lowering of Manhunt 2’s rating from Adults Only to Mature.

Senator Leland Yee, the legislator that attempted to pass a bill banning violent videogames in 2005, has requested an explanation from the ESRB on what caused them to alter their rating of the game.  However, the ESRB has refused to comply with his demands.

In response, ESRB president Patricia Vance stated “Publishers submit game content to the ESRB on a confidential basis. It is simply not our place to reveal specific details about the content we have reviewed, particularly when it involves a product not yet released.

“What can be said is that the changes that were made to the game, including the depictions themselves and the context in which those depictions were presented, were sufficient to warrant the assignment of an M (Mature 17+) rating by our raters.”

More on this as it develops.
