Metroid Prime 3 Outsells Bioshock

Metroid Prime 3 Outsells Bioshock

None

In the battle between the two big FPS titles of August, Nintendo’s Metroid Prime 3: Corruption came out on top, outselling the much celebrated Bioshock in first week sales by moving 400,000 units.

This comes as a surprise to many.  While the Wii’s household penetration is currently the best of all the “next-gen” consoles, the Wii also has a reputation for marketing casual gamers, which made a more “hardcore” title like Metroid Prime 3 seem less likely to sell as well as a similar title on the more “hardcore” consoles like the Xbox 360 or the PlayStation 3.  Also of note is the fact that Bioshock shipped on the Xbox 360 and the PC while Metroid shipped exclusively on the Wii.

This news bodes well for Nintendo, proving that the Wii is capable of selling “hardcore” titles in addition to their more casual games.
