Big Battling Bots Bring It At Mech World*

None

Mech World offers a new dimension in entertainment, where big boys become even bigger boys inside full-sized, fully functional, giant mechanized robots. Mech World turns “virtual” into reality as it realizes the dream of piloting giant mechs that was once the domain of anime and video games. Mech World is a monumental undertaking. There are two prototype theme parks in Japan , with four scheduled to be opened in North America by 2009.

Mech World will feature three-story tall, human piloted mechs that will square off in arenas in a battle to end all battles. These mechs are built to fight. They are manufactured from the all-metal components of construction vehicles such as front-end loaders and cranes. There is no fiberglass, plastic, or aluminum on the outside skin. These are the real deal. The cockpit is titanium reinforced so that the pilot is well protected. An ejection seat is supplied in the event of a mech meltdown, so that the pilot can quickly exit the mech before it explodes. All of these giant mechs are designed to move quickly and with incredible force. They will also have various guns and missiles at their disposal.

Mech World is a very ambitious and expensive project. Spectators at the arenas will help offset the cost of operating these giant mechs, which is estimated to be a hundred dollars a minute. These are real mechs, in real fights, with real weapons.

“This is war,” says Reggie Da’Obo, spokesperson for Mech World. “The future is here. Based on the popularity of mech video games, we know that men love giant, fighting robots; whether they are actually controlling them or just watching. This is also going to be a huge spectator sport. It’s poised to overshadow hockey, football, baseball, and basketball – combined. We envision a time when Mech World theme parks will be in every major center around the world. We are going to be the “Mech Donalds” of the entertainment world,” Da’Obo chuckled.

LazerIconic is the company that constructs the mechs. Each mech costs about three million dollars to originally construct, but they are easily maintained and repaired through the use of low-cost interchangeable parts. Even when a mech explodes, the titanium body core stays intact. The mechs are fast, flexible, and versatile. They can be used to rescue kittens from a tree or to turn an apartment block into a crematorium. The company is well aware there are some dangers involved.

Mech pilots must complete a week-long training course, at the end of which they will receive their mech pilot license. This will allow them to compete in any Mech World, and it will also allow the governments of the participating countries to monitor the activities of these pilots. These mechs run the risk of falling into the wrong hands. There’s nothing stopping a mech pilot from opening fire on the spectators, not to mention using it for terrorist activities. Consequently all potential mech pilots must undergo a criminal check and an extensive psychiatric evaluation.

“We hope that in the future we will see mini-mechs for children and dwarfs,” exclaims Da’Obo. “We are already in the process of designing mechs for women. They will come in various Earth tones and pastel shades, and of course be equipped with a toilet facility, vanity mirror, and an iPod player. They will be every bit as dangerous as the male mechs, but with the added power to wound deeply with words.”
