British Prisons Ban Consoles

British Prisons Ban Consoles

None

According to a UK tabloid The Sun, some prisons have banned the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and the Nintendo DS because of their potential for “send and receive radio signals”.

The prisons are apparently concerned with the ability to send messages using the consoles, giving them the ability to plan terrorist attacks.  A source is quoted as saying that “The technology in the new generation of computer games makes them a security risk … There is concern that top terror suspects have been using systems already in jails. Radio software is an integral part of the equipment.”

The fears apparently extend beyond the next-gen consoles, with the future possibility of banning all game consoles from prisons.
