In light of the problem with the Limited Edition Halo 3 discs, Microsoft has already announced that they would replace the scratched discs. Consumers that send in their scratched discs along with a disc replacement form by the end of the year will receive a new replacement disc and a waiver of the $20 fee they usually charge in disc replacement.
“We have identified that there are some instances of blemishes on discs as a result of the packaging,” Microsoft spokesman David Dennis stated. “This is a small fraction of the total number of Halo 3 games shipped and sold, and is a limited production version of the game.”
The problem appears to have arisen from faulty packaging that allows the game disc to become dislodged during transit and to get jostled around the tin packaging. The damage appears to run to gamut from merely cosmetic to making some game discs completely unplayable.
