Jack Thompson Shenanigans

Jack Thompson Shenanigans

Anti-game attorney Jack Thompson has been busy this week with his anti-game campaign.

First, Thompson found himself in trouble because of a questionable decision on his part.  The lawyer apparently filed gay porn images in a document filed with the court last week.  While it is hard to determine the exact reason for this action, Thompson’s reasoning behind it comes as a criticism of Norm Kent, a criminal defense lawyer from Fort Lauderdale who has a contentious legal history with Thompson.  Kent, who also publishes with the National Gay News, was criticized by Thompson for “distribution of hardcore porn to anyone of any age.”  Apparently, in order to drive his point further, Thompson included the gay pornographic images to his motion with Judge Jordan , which appears to be a strategically unsound move considering that Jordan is also the judge presiding over Thompson’s case wherein the Florida Bar is attempting to take action against his ability to practice law.

Thompson’s next move was to attempt to have Halo 3 declared a public nuisance.  He has already attempted this and failed in 2006 with Rockstar’s Bully.

Thompson’s latest action comes in the form of attempting to disprove the efficacy of the Rating System.  Thompson had his 15-year old son purchase a copy of Halo 3 at Target to prove that the M-rated game could easily wind up in the hands of underage gamers.  M-rated titles are rated so that only persons 17-years of age and older are able to purchase the game.

Thompson has performed this demonstration before when in early September he had his son purchase Bioshock, another M-rated title, from Best Buy.
