Nintendo Says Gamers Were Bored Before Wii

Nintendo Says Gamers Were Bored Before Wii

None

According to Vice President of marketing and corporate affairs at Nintendo of America, Perrin Kaplan, the gaming industry was in serious danger until the Wii came along, although the majority of gamers were ignorant of that fact.

When speaking about the success of the Wii, Kaplan said that “A major insight that Nintendo had early on was that they saw that gamers were getting bored, even though they didn’t know it yet”.

Robert Matthews, NOA’s senior director of consumer marketing, backed Kaplan’s controversial statement.  “Just look at the way people consume entertainment today. The idea that you would spend hours playing video games is just not real anymore,” said Matthews.

These claims are controversial in light of the feelings of some gamers that believe Nintendo abandoned their hardcore gamers in search of the casual gamer and the non-gamer, which would suggest that Nintendo widened its consumer base rather than reinvigorating its current market.
