Atari to Stop Developing Games

None

After a troublesome year with severe financial difficulties and threats to their licenses, the company Atari has announced that they will no longer produce games, shifting their focus to publishing.

According to their press release, they will “re-focus its operations on publishing and distribution in North America, completing its withdrawal from the production business.”

In more bad news for the company, Atari CEO David Pierce, appointed in September 2006, announced his retirement.  Curtis G. Solsvig III, the chief restructuring officer, will cover the CEO position in the interim.

Atari has faced many difficulties lately, including FUNimation’s attempt to terminate the Dragon Ball Z license they granted to Atari due to purported breach of terms and financial difficulties with a reported $11.9 million loss for the first quarter.
