Greenpeace Scores Zero for Nintendo

Greenpeace Scores Zero for Nintendo

None

Greenpeace, an environmental activist organization, scored Nintendo, Sony, and Microsoft, among other electronics companies, on their effect on the environment.  Each company was scored based on different criteria such as how well they recycle their products and how they clean up their toxic waste.  Overall, Greenpeace states that they are evaluating how well companies ” clean up their products by eliminating hazardous substances” and how efficiently they “takeback and recycle their products responsibly once they become obsolete.”

Sony scored the highest, being awarded a 7.3 out of a possible ten.  Microsoft did considerably worse, scoring only a meager 2.7.  However, Nintendo was the unquestionable loser of the big three, receiving a score of zero from Greenpeace’s evaluation.

Nintendo was penalized because of some of its practices, such as its use of polyvinyl chloride (PVC), which Greenpeace says poses environmental hazards.  Nintendo also has the dubious honor of being the “first global brand to score zero across all criteria” according to Greenpeace’s report.
