Nintendo Claims Huge Sales Figures

Nintendo Claims Huge Sales Figures

None

Nintendo has revealed that the company sold more Nintendo products during the first week of the 2007 holiday season, November 18 through November 24, “than at any other time in [our] history.” This impressive feat is made possible by the sale of 653,000 Nintendo DS units and 350,000 Wii units.  These figures broke their previous record of 600,000 Gameboy Advance units sold during Thanksgiving 2005.

“As shoppers look for ways to maximize their limited holiday spending money, they turn to gifts that can be used by the entire family,” George Harrison, Nintendo of America’s senior vice president of marketing and corporate communications stated. “Wii and Nintendo DS offer something for every member of the family. They’re the most fun video game experiences at the most affordable price.”

The Wii units sold are also impressive, although the number may be muted because of Wii shortages.  While some have suggested that Nintendo has artificially created the Wii shortages by underproducing to increase demand, Nintendo of America President Reggie Fils-Aime denied this rumor, stating that “A shortage benefits no one…This was all about how we didn’t accurately estimate demand. We need to be more bullish about the potential for the Wii.”
