VidPitch Lets Gamers Sell Their Game Ideas*

None

Did you have a great idea for a videogame? Ever want to strike it rich with your million-dollar concept? Well, then you need to get your butt down to the VidPitch conference coming to Las Vegas in early 08.

VidPitch is a huge industry-wide conference that is open to the public. The aim of the three-day event is to have average gamers pitch their game ideas to professional publishers and developers in exchange for royalty licensing agreements. A good idea can literally be worth millions of dollars.

All the big names will be in attendance including Nintendo, EA, Rockstar, UbiSoft, Activision, Microsoft, and THQ, just to name a few. Participants will be wined, dined, and accommodated graciously. Participants are given a maximum of ten minutes to pitch their idea. They can pitch the same idea to different companies, or come back to the same companies and pitch different ideas.

“There is absolutely no downside,” explains organizer Bertle Noddy. “There are no admission or administration fees. All pitches will be copyrighted on the spot by videotape, thus protecting the gamers’ idea. And best of all, no prototype or programming skills are required. If you can tell a story, you can make a pitch. As we say in the industry, make a pitch and make yourself rich,” Noddy adds.

Some of the most popular videogames in the last few years were discovered at VidPitch, including Kingdom Hearts, dot Hack, and Halo. Needless to say, the people that pitched these ideas are sitting on easy street. Last year, Jason Newfie pitched the idea of combining giant mechs, role playing, real time strategy, and shooting all wrapped up in a Tetris-style puzzle. “It really is just a huge mix of elements. But popular elements. I can’t believe that EA bought it from me. I wasn’t even there to pitch a game, I was there delivering bottled water. I came out of there with a check for more than $250,000. Needless to say I’ll be going back next year,” chuckles Newfie.

Participants that sign up before the end of the year will have all of their expenses paid including airfare, food, and accommodations at the Bellagio, one of Las Vegas ’ most exclusive and expensive resorts.
