Police Lure Offenders With Promise of Free Xbox

Police Lure Offenders With Promise of Free Xbox

None

The El Paso Times reports that the police in the area were able to clear 129 warrants and complete 115 arrests.  However, it wasn’t due to a city-wide police sweep or any other dynamic method.  They simply promised the offenders a free Xbox, among other prizes.

The police led many individuals wanted for various charges to believe they’d won a prize, with the winnings including an Xbox console, a television, and other unrevealed prizes.  When the offenders showed up to claim their prize, they were arrested.

The operation was successful, resulting in the arrest of 115 individuals and the collection of $25,686 in traffic fines.

“We are very pleased with this operation. This is the kind of operation that really benefits the community of El Paso ,” police Chief Richard Wiles said. “I think it is important for the citizens of El Paso to know what the Police Department is doing and what the U.S. Marshal’s Office is doing because we do take these outstanding warrants very seriously and we want to put the resources into getting these people behind bars.”
