PS2 Still Top Played System

PS2 Still Top Played System

None

Nielson’s Media Report revealed a surprising trend in gaming.  Despite most of the big three’s push towards the current generation of gaming, a surprisingly large number of gamers are still enjoying last gen technology.

According to the Nielson Media Research, 42.2 percent of console gaming minutes are spent playing games on the PlayStation 2, which translates to more than twice as much time spent on all the current gen consoles combined.  The Xbox and Gamecube combine to represent 21 percent of gaming minutes, which ultimately means that 63 percent of gaming is spent on last gen machines.  In comparison, the Xbox 360, which places third, represents 11.8 percent of gaming minutes.

These figures might not be that surprising, especially considering the incredibly large installed base of the PlayStation 2.  Even gamers with current gen system probably still own and utilize Sony’s tried and true PS2, especially considering that there are still a good number of titles being released for the system as well as an formidable library of established games.
