Video Games, Not Soda, To Blame for Child Obesity

Video Games, Not Soda, To Blame for Child Obesity

None

According to a report from the International Herald Tribune, a lobbyist for the soda industry blames video games for childhood obesity in an attempt to divert a surcharge on the sale of sweetened soft drinks.

In response to the proposed surcharge, Kevin Keane of the American Beverage Association stated that “It makes no sense to single out any one single cause of obesity, which is a complex problem.”  In a seeming contradiction of that statement, Keane also stated that if the mayor was really interested in fighting childhood obesity, he would target computer and video games, which are, according to him, keeping kids from being “outside burning calories.”
