Jack Thompson Targeting Defense Department

Jack Thompson Targeting Defense Department

None

Jack Thompson, the infamous anti-game attorney, has a new “offender” to focus some of his anti-game ire on.  In the past, Thompson has targeted gaming websites, game producers and developers, the ESRB, and even the fast food chain Wendy’s .  His next target, however, appears to be the U.S. Department of Defense.

Thompson sent out a press release today saying that some of his focus in the upcoming year would be turning his attention on the U.S. military and their role in video gaming.  Thompson is apparently investigating a collaboration between the military and the gaming industry.  According to Thompson, “One of the consequences of this collaboration [between the DoD and the game biz] is the increasing number of commando-style assaults by young video gamers, such as the recent ‘mall massacre’ in Omaha , Nebraska .”  Thompson also cites the VA Tech Massacre, claiming that “Virginia Tech’s Cho was an obsessive high school player of the military-themed CounterStrike, according to the Washington Post,” although reports have indicated that Cho sparse gaming habits tended more towards Sonic the Hedgehog.

Thompson goes on to further berate the military for allying themselves with gamers, stating that it “is increasingly clear is that the unholy alliance between the game industry and the DOD is teaching an entire generation of kids that war is glamorous, cool, desirable, and consequence-free.”

Thompson is currently on trial for misconduct , and if found guilty, could lose his license to practice law, but apparently his indictment hasn’t hindered his crusade against gaming.
