Doctor Claims Gaming Causes Brain Damage

None

Dr. Chou Yuan-hua, a physician employed by the Department of Psychiatry of the Taipei Veterans General Hospital , claims that gaming causes brain damage, especially violent video games.

Chou conducted a test on 30 individuals, each 25 years of age.  Each of the test subjects played video games for 30 minutes, with the gamers being tested for their various blood pressure and physical blood distribution levels before and after the gaming session.

After the tests, Chou concluded that ” the act of playing video games obviously causes a decreased blood flow in the brain.” Chou further expressed concern for children, stating that they ” spend far more time [than the 30 minutes of the study] on video games each day, unaware that doing so on a long term basis could damage the frontal lobe of the brain.”

Chou also drew comparisons, stating that patients with schizophrenia and depression have the lowered blood flows in their frontal lobes and anterior cingulate gyruses, implying that the same could possibly result from gaming.
