Konami Denies Xbox 360 Port for MGS4…again

In news that should surprise no one, Konami has again denied resurfacing rumors of a port of Metal Gear Solid 4 for the Xbox 360.  A Konami representative stated that ” Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots is a PlayStation 3 exclusive and there are no plans to develop an Xbox 360 version of the game.”

While Konami’s denial should be expected, it is easy to see why the rumor is persisting.  Despite the current source of the rumor , Konami producer Ryan Payton stated the game needs to sell a million copies on the day it is released for them.  The Xbox 360 has a much larger installed base than the PlayStation 3… except in Japan of course.  Finally, many exclusives, such as Devil May Cry 4 and Grand Theft Auto IV, have gone the multiplatform route.  It is hard to envision MGS4 sticking with the PS3 exclusively and succeeding, considering the huge development costs implied by Payton’s words.
