Sony has confirmed that the GPS system for the PSP, which has already been released in Japan , is coming stateside, giving PSP owners to opportunity to navigate and locate POIs (points of interest) with their handheld Sony system.

Sony’s Consumer Electronics Show website lists information about the new service, stating that through using “the GPS peripheral and the latest mapping software on UMD, your PSP will provide 2D/3D locations, driving directions, POI’s, and even downloadable city guides…With an easy search feature and customisable settings, GPS on PSP is the easiest way to navigate new areas and cities.”

Sony has also recently revealed that Skype, the online VoIP service, will be available on the PSP soon as well.  More information on both services will be available after CES.
