PSP Getting Blu-ray Support

PSP Getting Blu-ray Support

None

Although the use of UMDs as a way of distributing movies has failed for Sony, Blu-ray movies are beginning to take off, especially with the recent (and nearly HD-DVD crippling) announcement that Warner Bros is exclusively Blu-ray.  Sony has recently revealed further support for Blu-ray, announcing that future Blu-ray discs will have PSP playback.

A number of Blu-ray discs will have a second copy of the movie saved which is formatted for use on the PSP.  PlayStation 3 owners will be able to use their wireless connection to their PSP to transfer the movie from the PS3 to the PSP, although the PSP owners will have to have sufficient storage space to save the movie.

With UMD all but extinct, this Blu-ray support will definitely help the PSP’s multimedia abilities, and further justify the connectivity between the PS3 and the PSP.
