Nintendo, Sony in Hot Water

Nintendo, Sony in Hot Water

None

According to Copper Innovations Group, Nintendo’s Wii Remote and Nunchuk, as well as Sony’s Sixaxis controller and Blu-Ray remote infringe upon a patent the firm had filed in January of 1996 for a “hand held computer input apparatus and method.”

Of course, Copper Innovations group is seeking punitive damages, interest, attorneys’ fees, as well as an injunction to stop the gaming giants from infringing upon said patent.

You may remember the lawsuit recently brought against Sony by Immersion Corporation over patent infringements with the rumble feature in the previous Dual-Shock controllers. Hence the release of the Sixaxis at launch that is soon to be replaced by the Dualshock 3 controller. Immersion Corporation was successful in their claim and was awarded $100 million dollars in damages. What effects will this kind of targeted litigation have upon the gaming industry?
