The utter failure that was Gizmondo may make a comeback. Unfortunately, the handheld ran into a brick wall as did its chief executive Stefan Eriksson. The imprisonment of Eriksson for illegal street-racing in a stolen Ferrari has cast a long shadow over the brand. With Eriksson’s recent release from jail, the Gizmondo is rearing its unsuccessful head again. The internet buzz is spurned on by a flash presentation hosted by www.gizmondolive.com . The flash piece claims that the Gizmondo will “democratize gaming” by being a cheap ($99), open source platform, complete with a Live Marketplace and “Exciting Psychic Worlds”? If this story is to be believed, look for Gizmondo to target the holiday season of 2008 for its phoenix-like return. |
