CGS Set for Second Season

CGS Set for Second Season

None

Professional gaming may actually have found a foothold.  The CGS, Championship Gaming Series, has been picked up for a second season.  The gaming events will start with the player combine and draft selection in Austin, TX from March 7th to the 9th.

That’s right; I’m not joking.  CGS is made up of six professional teams and cyber-athletes that will have to prove their worth to the various general managers in order to sign a professional gaming contract for the 2008 season.  According to the CGS press release, gamers will be scrutinized through intense tournament play as well as being “subjected to the proprietary CGS H2i hand-eye coordination testing system which measures their raw gaming ability.”

The North American teams include: Los Angeles Complexity, New York 3D, Chicago Chimera, Carolina Core, San Francisco Optx, and Dallas Venom.  Last year’s champion, Chicago Chimera, took home the coveted Dew Trophy and a grand prize of $1 million.

The 2008 North American regular season will commence on June 23 and continue until the final on July 14, 2008.  The CGS can be seen on DIRECTV’s The 101, broadcasting in HD.  Details will soon be announced regarding the CGS international schedule, the World Final, official Draft rules for each region, and the official schedule of the league’s 2008 Games.
