EA Announces Arcade Boxer, FaceBreaker

None

Gaming giant EA announced today the development of FaceBreaker for the Xbox 360, PS3, and Wii.  The title abandons the ultra-realism of the Fight Night franchise for an arcade style that is sure to please gamers of every walk.  The game is being developed by EA Canada, so there’s a good chance it will be loads of fun.  Gamers can expect the title to release sometime this year.

The collapse of the Fight Night series and the overall state of boxing has prompted EA to develop a title that will appeal to a broader demographic.  President of EA SPORTS, Peter Moore, opined by saying that, “We’re very excited to announce FaceBreaker, an all-new franchise from EA SPORTS that is fun, fresh and innovative.  FaceBreaker reinvigorates one of the great genres in sports videogames. Arcade boxing takes me back to my roots in this industry, and this game signals our shift to adding more approachable fun to our product lineup. In no time at all, you’ll be picking up the controllers and knocking your opponent around the ring, smashing faces, and having a riot.”

If the title of the game doesn’t get you excited maybe some of the prospective features will.  Gamers will be able to fight other stylized boxers.  These competitors will taunt you with pelvic thrusts and dirty fighting.  The characters are an eclectic mix of fighters much like those in the original Punch-Out series.

The fighting will be utter fun as you pummel the heads of your opponents like a speed bag.  There will be real-time face deformation too.  That means you’ll be able to literally leave your mark on the other challengers.  As an added bonus, you’ll be able to upload your own photo and place it on your character to really enhance the experience.

There’s no word yet on multiplayer gameplay, but the fact that it’s an EA Sports title is enough to leave us confident.
