Rumor Round-Up: PS3 Slim, Cheap 360, MGS4 to the Wii, and more!

None

Beginning last week the wildest rumors have been flying around the net in forums, chat rooms, and industry-specific sites about the PS3. Supposedly a white PS3 will come stateside, Sony’s also going to discontinue the 80 GB SKU and they may then replace that SKU with a different one that has a 120 or 160 GB HDD. Sony could even release an economical version of the PS3 that retails for a measly $299. Finally, Sony may get all “Apple” on us and get white and sleek. The slimmed down version seems to make a lot of business sense. Of course, Sony has denied all of these claims. However, where there’s smoke there’s fire! Look for the Ceramic White PS3 to make an appearance, but the other rumors are probably false.

Not to be outdone, there are rumors of an Xbox 360 that will retail for $249 and release at the same time as GTA IV. More likely would be a bundled pack of the game and the system for $299. This is highly speculative though and probably unlikely.

Blizzard has filed a patent for Battlechat. This will be a virtual network telecommunications service. It is an interface and platform that allows “for the electronic transmission of messages and data including voice, text, and message transmission.” There’s no word yet on how this technology will be implemented by the famed developer, but look for it to be patched into World of Warcraft and released with all subsequent games, such as Starcraft 2.

Wii may see Metal Gear Solid 4 come to the console. Though completely unconfirmed, the rumor may be a lot more plausible than once thought. The reason is that a posted list by Smash Bros. Dojo shows all of the music tracks found in Super Smash Bros. Brawl. Included in that list is MGS4 [Theme of Love] SSBB version from Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots. Is it a coincidence? We’re not so sure. Every other track listed is from a game that either is on the system or will be on it soon.

Stay tuned to the news next week to see what else gets churned out of the rumor mill.
