It has been rumored that Apple would one day try their hand at the gaming market. According to the folks at Trademork.com, there is a trademark filing that may back up those wild assertions. On February 5, 2008 Apple Inc. filed to protect their Apple trademark concerning “ hand-held units for playing electronic games; hand-held units for playing video games; stand alone video game machines; electronic games other than those adapted for use with television receivers only; LCD game machines; electronic educational game machines; toys, namely battery-powered computer games ”. We’ll see what products actually come from this. There may simply be software development to retro-fit the iPhone or iPod Touch to be more gamer-friendly. However, according to an article by AppleInsider, Apple Inc. is in talks with Intel in order to create a series of chipsets that will be ultra mobile. Whether these chips will be applied to even smaller MacBook Air laptops or to an “iGame” handheld system is still a mystery. In any case, look for Apple to try and revolutionize handheld gaming and Nintendo to fire back with something amazing. |
