EA and NFL Firm up Deal through 2012

Madden fans rejoice!  Electronic Arts, the NFL and NFL PLAYERS have agreed to extend the contract to make officially licensed football games through the 2012 season.  EA has exclusive rights to develop, publish, and distribute interactive games of NFL teams, stadiums, and players.  This new agreement simply extends former contracts that were originally signed in December of 2004.

President of EA SPORTS, Peter Moore, stated on the EA website that, ” We are excited about the opportunity to extend and expand our relationships with the NFL and NFL PLAYERS.  For nearly two decades, EA SPORTS has been bringing sports fans closer to the great game of football through the breakthrough interactive experiences of our videogames. Game quality is our top priority, and we’re committed to pushing our gameplay innovation, connecting football fans via rich online experiences and delivering the most visually stunning sports games on the market .”

Look for this agreement to be the death knell of all other football franchises.  Fortunately, EA makes a great football product.  John Madden won’t allow a series that bears his name to slip into mediocrity; with him at the helm, hopefully Madden NFL will continue to be the franchise we know and love.
