Rumor Round-Up: 360 to Go Blu-Ray, New 360 SKU, Revolutionary A.I., and more!

None

There were a few whoppers this week and a number of unconfirmed projects talked about by some rather credible sources. This week’s Rumor Round-Up is pretty solid, here are the highlights!

Rumors surrounding the 360 and Blu-Ray just won’t stop. Many insiders feel that Microsoft already has a Blu-Ray peripheral in the wings. The Blu-Ray player is simply waiting for approval from Sony and the marketing team just has to put together the campaigns.

Some even think that a new SKU for the 360 will come out that actually incorporates a Blu-Ray player into the console itself. This is highly unlikely though as Microsoft never did that with HD-DVD.

Other Xbox rumors swirled around the fact that Amazon listed all Xbox 360s as “discontinued by the manufacturer.” This led bloggers and forum contributors to speculate that a new 360 SKU is eminent. If you combine this nugget with last week’s news that there are new 360 motherboards and chipsets in the works, it looks like this rumor may be founded in fact.

The most interesting unconfirmed pearl promulgated via the internet this week concerned the comments made by Peter Molyneux at GDC. Mr. Molyneux couldn’t contain his excitement when discussing A.I. in video games. Molyneux let slip that his Lionhead Studios was in the process of revolutionizing A.I. They are developing software technology that makes virtual characters seem almost too real. There are no details surrounding specific games in production that will use the technology, but Mr. Molyneux assures us that they are very close to an announcement.
