According to Variety magazine, Paramount Pictures will take on the world of videogames effective immediately. The media company has been looking to expand into the sector for several months now and has stated that it will be publishing games by the end of the year. Paramount will begin their foray into the gaming market by concentrating on casual, handheld, and mobile games. These kinds of titles most interest the company because they can be developed for just a couple of million dollars as opposed to the big ticket costs of developing for the Xbox 360 and the PlayStation 3. As such look for paramount to take advantage of the Wii and the DS to get their games to consumers. Many of these titles will be based on existing Paramount franchises.
