Nintendo to Announce High Powered GPU at E3? (April Fool’s!)

None

According to inside sources, Nintendo of America president Reggie Fils-Aime will reveal a post-production peripheral that Wii owners can attach to their consoles in order to give it a serious boost to graphical output. Consumers can expect the unit to be available by the end of Nintendo’s fiscal third quarter.

The new GPU will not be integrated into a new SKU for the Wii, but instead will be sold separately as add-on hardware for those gamers who are willing to shell out an additional $499.99. The price seems a little steep, but our source assures us that the new hardware will employ dual GPUs that will far surpass the processing power of both the PS3 and Xbox 360.

This unconfirmed bit of news has left industry analysts dumbfounded. What has prompted such a radical change in the Nintendo camp? Up until now it seemed obvious that the Big N was content to ride its simple, cartoon-style, first party titles and quirky gameplay all the way to the bank. Could it be that graphics actually do play an important part in the overall experience? Check back for details as they come to us!
