We wouldn’t have believed it, but we saw it with our own eyes. Several pictures were published on Japanese Nintendo fan site, inside-games.jp, that show a resurrected SNES / Super Famicom controller that is compatible with Wii. Even still, with all of the brand piracy in East Asia we will have to label this as an unconfirmed rumor until Nintendo sends us something.
Additionally, it was difficult to understand the article due to the poor Google translation. Fortunately, pictures speak louder than words. What we could glean from the news is that the controller was given away in limited quantities to Platinum members of the “Nintendo Club”, but will sell for 5,000 Yen or nearly $50 USD. A bit on the pricey side don’t you think?
We’ll have to wait and see if it comes to North America. Hopefully, this bodes well for the re-release of other Nintendo controllers, i.e. Wavebirds and N64 controllers.
