Is the New Nintendo Handheld / DS Saga Over?

Is the New Nintendo Handheld / DS Saga Over?

None

A few days ago Bloomberg Japan stated that Enterbrain President, Hirakazu Hamamura, felt Nintendo would most likely announce the launch of a redesigned DS model at E3. As such, the industry was abuzz due to the fact that Enterbrain is the publisher of the famed Famitsu magazine. It seemed to the industry that this may be real news.

However, a statement was just released by Enterbrain on Hamamura’s behalf that denies the validity of Bloomberg’s claim. The statement even went so far as to point out that the company’s president feels that it is highly unlikely that Nintendo will release either a revamped DS or a new handheld platform.

It has long been speculated by insiders that Nintendo would release a redesigned handheld simply by looking at the company’s historical trends. However, sales of DS are still so incredibly strong that it seems foolish to derail that momentum. According to Nintendo’s rebuttals, this seems to be exactly the case. Nintendo was adamant that a redesigned DS would not be on display at E3. What about an entirely new handheld? I’m ready for the Nintendo Go! This question was never directly addressed by Nintendo, so there may still be a glimmer of hope. Just don’t hold your breath!
