Nintendo of America Can't Keep Wii on Shelves

None

As we all know, Nintendo of America is struggling to keep Wii on store shelves.  According to Reggie Fils-Aime via Wired, the average shelf life of Wii is only one hour.  This is an amazing phenomenon about which Reggie is “passionately upset.”  If I were Nintendo of Japan I’d be shaking in my boots!  Check out “Reggie Ali” below:

Mr. Fils-Aime stated that supply is determined by Nintendo of Japan and that NoA constantly reminds them of the missed opportunities.  As production allocation stands right now, North America gets about 40% of the 1.8 million units of Wii produced every month.  North America is the only region where demand is disproportionate to supply.  Consumers in Australia, Asia, and Europe can walk into large retailers and game stores and actually find the console waiting for them on store shelves.

Fortunately, it looks like Nintendo is going to raise their production up to 2.4 million this summer, so we’ll see if the increase will help Nintendo to get the supply and demand curves to intersect.
