PlayStation Day Highlights

None

Yesterday, president of Sony Computer Entertainment, Kaz Hirai, addressed the press at London’s Millennium Dome.  The first order of business for Mr. Hirai was to address the delay of both Home and Killzone 2.

According to Mr. Hirai, Home is simply not nearly ready for release.  Due to quality control issues, the service won’t even see open Beta until fall.  Along those lines, Killzone 2 will be delayed until February 2009.  Of course, both delays weren’t news to anyone, but his apologies for them is.  Mr. Hirai is disappointed by the delays, but is optimistic about the future of the PS3.

Kaz Hirai sees the PS3 lasting for at least ten years and that recent sales figures show that the 5 million units of PS3 sold in Europe has surpassed the installed consumer base of the 360 despite the fact that  the Microsoft device had more than a year head start.

Finally, Sony will focus on user generated content to drive their console.  Creating levels for games such as Little Big Planet and socializing with friends via Home will prove to be Sony’s hook according to Hirai.
